Fi & Col Sheppard established Flaxman Wines in 2004 when they purchased the property and made the vine-change move across from Melbourne.
Their vineyard sits in the very beautiful and picturesque Eden Valley in the Barossa ranges and includes 3 acres of Riesling, 2.5 acres of Shiraz and 1/2 acre of Semillon, all planted around 1929. Small parcels of Grenache, Mataro, Chardonnay and Cabernet are also purchased to broaden the line-up of wines on offer. The grapes are hand-picked each year and Colin makes all the wines onsite (except the Riesling) - so during vintage, visitors can observe the wine-making process first hand.
Being a builder in Melbourne, Colin has over time, built a Cellar Door, an outdoor kitchen, pizza oven and outdoor dining area to add to the ever changing landscape of Flaxman. The Cellar Door is now open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, and the outdoor kitchen and dining area are utilised for the long lunches held on the 1st Saturday of each month or for Private functions.
In the current 'unusual' climate our Cellar Door is open on Saturday and Sundays and our Long Lunches are currently on hold and we are hoping to bring them back in September. Please contact us to enquire about a private lunch.
