ABOUT FLAXMAN.

Fi & Col Sheppard established Flaxman Wines in 2004 when they purchased the vineyard, made the vine-change and moved across from Melbourne.  The vineyard sits in the very beautiful and picturesque Eden Valley in the Barossa and includes 3 acres of Riesling, 2.5 acres of Shiraz and 1/2 acre of Semillon, all planted in 1929.  Small parcels of Grenache, Mataro, and Cabernet are also purchased to broaden the line-up of wines on offer. The grapes are hand-picked each year and all wines (except the Riesling) are made onsite - so visitors can observe the wine-making process first hand during vintage. 

A boutique producer, Flaxman features a cellar door open to the public on Thursday 11-4, Friday 11-5, Saturday 11-5 and Sunday 11-4pm and they have a select number of wines available for tasting each day.  Cheese platters with both local and international cheeses are available on weekends, so why not sit back and enjoy a glass or two overlooking the vineyard. 

A Long Leisurely Lunch option is also available on the 1st Saturday of every month, but these lunches do book out fast.  So if you are planning your tip in advance, make sure you try and book in for this very unique and authentic dining experience at their shared table overlooking the vineyard and enjoy some amazing food cooked by Col.  In 2018 & 2019 their Cellar Door was awarded ‘Best Cellar Door with food in the Eden Valley’ by Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine, so don’t miss out.  Private lunch bookings are also offered to small groups of (6-12 people).

I'm Col, a Builder turned winemaker who also happens to enjoy cooking a bit as well. I'm the lucky person who rarely feels like I go to work and I guess when you are indulging your passions, how can it feel like work? As they say, luck favours the brave and it was our brave leap of faith that has us living in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Come and say hi and you will understand why I will never work another day in my life.

MEET THE TEAM

Hi. I look after these two boys on either side of me. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it. I'm a bit of a jack of all trades here, so on my days off, I can be found in the office working on the website, doing the book work, marketing and helping out in the vineyard and winery when and where I am needed. I look forward to welcoming you to our Cellar Door or hosting you at one of our lunches. Cheers Fi

I'm Gus and I'm an 8 year old staffy and the Cellar Door Manager here. I'll be here to greet you when you arrive and won't let you leave until I have won you over.  I also work in the vineyard with Col most of the time, love getting caught in the nets during picking time, enjoy a good game of ball but mainly I just love to be around people.
