In 2004, interested in trying something new, Col landed a vintage job at a winery in the Barossa Valley. Like so many who visit and work vintages, he was seduced not only by the region’s great wine but also its incredible food culture and the many opportunities the Barossa could offer. On a whim, Col bought a vineyard – without telling his wife – and in July, with wife Fi, he moved to the Barossa permanently and Flaxman Wines was born.
First things first, Col put his building skills to work and built a cellar for the wine and then a cellar door on top of that. The construction of an outdoor dining area complete with pergola, outdoor kitchen and pizza oven, followed shortly after – with views to die for, overlooking the Flaxman vineyard. A perfect setting for long lunches, Col turned his culinary talents to furnishing the impressive four-metre-long redgum dining table with fine food and the seed to create a long lunch dining experience was planted – becoming a reality in 2018.
In the current 'unusual' climate our Cellar Door is open on Saturday and Sundays and our Long Lunches are back up and running. Please contact us to enquire about booking a lunch.
Bookings are preferred for tastings.
