In 2004, interested in trying something new, Col landed a vintage job at a winery in the Barossa Valley.  Like so many who visit and work vintages, he was seduced not only by the region’s great wine but also its incredible food culture and the many opportunities the Barossa could offer.  On a whim, Col bought a vineyard – without telling his wife – and in July, with wife Fi, he moved to the Barossa permanently and Flaxman Wines was born.

First things first, Col put his building skills to work and built a cellar for the wine and then a cellar door on top of that.  The construction of an outdoor dining area complete with pergola, outdoor kitchen and pizza oven, followed shortly after – with views to die for, overlooking the Flaxman vineyard.  A perfect setting for long lunches, Col turned his culinary talents to furnishing the impressive four-metre-long redgum dining table with fine food and the seed to create a long lunch dining experience was planted – becoming a reality in 2018.

In the current 'unusual' climate our Cellar Door is open on Saturday and Sundays and our Long Lunches are back up and running.  Please contact us to enquire about booking a lunch.

Bookings are preferred for tastings.

Meet The Team @ FLAXMAN

Hi. I look after these two boys and it's a tough job, but someone has to do it. I'm a bit of a jack of all trades around here, so on my days off, I can be found in the office working on the website, doing the book work, marketing and helping out in the vineyard and winery when and where I am needed. I look forward to welcoming you to our Cellar Door or hosting you at one of our lunches.

I'm Col, a Builder turned winemaker who also happens to enjoy cooking a bit as well. I'm the lucky person who rarely feels like I go to work and I guess when you are indulging your passions, how can it feel like work? As they say, luck favours the brave and it was our brave leap of faith that has us living in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Come and say hi and you will understand why I will never work another day in my life.

I'm Gus and I'm an 9 year old staffy and the Cellar Door Manager here. I'll be here to greet you when you arrive and won't let you leave until I have won you over.  I also work in the vineyard with Col most of the time, love getting caught in the nets during picking time, enjoy a good game of ball but mainly I just love to be around people. I look forward to seeing you at our cellar door sometime soon.
